Does your restaurant pool your tips?
There’s a battle going on about Tip Pooling that may reach the Supreme Court. At the heart of the matter is that some restaurants pool the tips from all the employees who directly contact the customer (servers, bartenders, etc), and then use some of that money to pay employees who don’t usually earn tips (cooks, maintenance, etc).
Basically, what they’re doing is paying these non-tipped employees less than they should and using the tips of tipped employees to make up the difference.
What do you think about this? Fair? Not Fair? (Did I do a good job of hiding my own bias?)
